Tragedy to Triumph:
For 30 years, I struggled with addiction. I spent much of my life trying to catch the “high life.” During this time, I did not know that these behaviors would lead to many DUIs and incarcerations for self-destructive behaviors. I lost everything, including myself. I spent 18 months in 2 different “therapeutic communities” and never got any long-term sobriety.
At the age of 34, I started college. Today I have a BS/MA in human services and a MA in special education. I have worked in the addiction/recovery field for years and spent 2 decades in the hospitality industry. At 40, I started running. It became meditation for me. I qualified for the Boston Marathon. I’ve trained and competed in triathlons and endurance events. My favorite was the “Tough Mudder.” In 2019, I went to a fantastic treatment facility that showed me that support is everything.
I advocate for those who battle addiction in our community.
